It wasn't much, but it was enough to set rumor mill alight, with series fans speculating en masse about Fallout 5's potential setting, story and gameplay features. In late 2021, director and executive producer Todd Howard said Bethesda has a "one-pager" for Fallout 5, but it's still a while off. Speculation aside, here is everything we know about Fallout 5 in these pre-production stages - and what we're hoping to see in this upcoming chapter of Bethesda's post-apocalyptic action world. Bethesda's recent acquisition by Microsoft could also mean that, unlike past instalments of the franchise, it might not launch on Sony consoles at all. That's not speculation, either we've been told that Fallout 5 will come after The Elder Scrolls 6, but while that confirmation is reassuring, it does mean that this is one of the upcoming Xbox Series X games we won't be seeing for some time. If ever patience were a virtue, the time would be now. Next on its place will be The Elder Scrolls 6, and only once the Skyrim sequel is firmly on its feet should we expect some more concrete Fallout 5 news. That's because Bethesda is hard at work on Starfield ahead of its imminent September 2023 release, an intergalactic adventure that's piqued our interest as one of the most interesting new games of 2023.
